Zero power coloured lenses: what they are and who can wear them

Every april. lens is zero power. But what does that actually mean, and can you wear them if you normally wear glasses? Here are clear answers.

What does zero power mean?

Zero power lenses, also called plano or 0.00 lenses, have no vision correction. They change the colour of your eyes, not how well you see. On a lens box or product page, you'll see the power written as 0.00.

Who can wear zero power lenses?

If your vision is clear without glasses: zero power lenses are made for you. You'll see exactly as you do now, with a new eye colour.
If you wear glasses or prescription lenses: zero power lenses won't correct your vision. You can still wear your glasses over them, but you won't see clearly with the coloured lenses alone.
If you're not sure about your eyesight: book an eye test first. It's a good idea before you wear any lenses for the first time.

Can I wear coloured lenses with my glasses?

Yes. Many people wear zero power coloured lenses and put their usual glasses on top. The colour still shows through the glasses, and your glasses take care of your vision.

Just remember that the coloured lenses alone won't help you see. Never drive or do anything that needs clear vision without your glasses on.

Do zero power lenses need the same care?

Yes. Zero power doesn't mean zero care. They sit on your eye just like prescription lenses, so the same rules apply:

Wash and dry your hands before you touch them.
Clean and store them only in contact lens solution, never water.
Don't sleep in them, and don't share them.
Take them out if your eyes feel uncomfortable.

Do they fit everyone?

april. lenses have a 14.2 mm diameter and an 8.8 mm base curve. If a lens feels uncomfortable or keeps moving after it settles, take it out and ask an eye doctor to check whether it suits your eyes.
