Eye makeup for coloured lenses: what to wear with each shade

Your lens shade sets the mood. Your eye makeup decides how much people notice it. Here's how to pair makeup with every april. shade family so your colour stands out.
The simple rule: contrast makes colour show
Colours opposite each other on the colour wheel make each other look brighter. That's why copper makes blue eyes pop and plum makes green eyes glow. Use that idea as your starting point, then wear what you love.
Eye makeup for brown lenses
Browns are warm and close to your own colour, so warm makeup brings out their glow.
- Eyeshadow: bronze, gold, copper and soft peach.
- Liner: a brown liner looks softer than black and lets the lens colour show.
- Try with: Golden Caramel Brown, Cream Latte Brown or Soft Honey Hazel.
Eye makeup for grey lenses
Greys are cool and soft. Definition around the eye keeps them from looking washed out.
- Eyeshadow: charcoal, taupe, silver and soft plum.
- Liner: black liner gives greys the strongest contrast.
- Try with: Soft Cloud Grey, Pearl Silver Grey or Deep Charcoal Grey.
Eye makeup for blue lenses
Blues already make the boldest change on dark eyes. Warm tones make them look even brighter.
- Eyeshadow: copper, bronze, terracotta and warm brown.
- Liner: brown for a softer look, navy or black for more drama.
- Skip: a blue eyeshadow that matches the lens. It competes with the colour instead of framing it.
- Try with: Aqua Sky Blue, Royal Sapphire Blue or Smoky Ocean Blue.
Eye makeup for green lenses
Greens look fresh and striking. Red and purple tones sit opposite green, so they make it glow.
- Eyeshadow: plum, mauve, burgundy and rose gold.
- Liner: brown or deep plum keeps the focus on the green.
- Try with: Emerald Gold Green, Sage Hazel Green or Deep Forest Green.
Makeup habits for lens wearers
- Lenses in first. Put your lenses in before any eye makeup, and take them out before you remove it.
- Keep liner outside the lash line. Eye doctors generally advise against lining the inner rim of the eye when you wear lenses, as product can get onto the lens.
- Choose mascara without fibres. Lash fibres can fall into the eye and get under a lens.
- Go easy on loose powder. Tap off extra shimmer and powder before it reaches your eyes.
- Keep makeup fresh. Replace eye products regularly and never share them.
