The right shade doesn't just change your eye colour. It works with your skin, your hair and your everyday look. Use this as a starting point, then trust what you love.

Find your undertone first

Look at the veins on the inside of your wrist in daylight.

  • Greenish veins: warm undertone
  • Blue or purple veins: cool undertone
  • A mix of both: neutral undertone

Warm undertones usually suit golden, honey and olive shades. Cool undertones usually suit greys and blues. Not sure about your undertone? Skip it and go by what you love on screen.

Starting points by skin tone

Skin tone Natural look Noticeable change
Fair Cream Latte Brown Pearl Silver Grey, Ice Crystal Blue
Wheatish Golden Caramel Brown, Soft Honey Hazel Champagne Ash Grey, Sage Hazel Green
Dusky Rich Chestnut Brown, Velvet Mocha Brown Emerald Gold Green, Deep Charcoal Grey

These are suggestions, not rules. Plenty of people with wheatish skin look stunning in blue, and plenty with fair skin love a deep brown.

Think about your everyday look

  • Work, college and daily wear: browns and soft greys blend in with any outfit.
  • When you want your eyes to be the focus: blues and greens make the boldest change on dark eyes.
  • Hair colour helps too: warm brown or highlighted hair pairs well with honey and caramel shades; black hair makes greys and blues stand out.
